Being mainly based in Marbella and Malaga, my business has a strong seasonal element to it. It is not like Ibiza which is absolutely dead in the winter and bouncing non-stop from June to October. Nor is it like my old stomping ground in the West End of London, which is busy one way or another pretty much twelve months round. But Marbella and Malaga are about three times busier in the summer than the winter and the type of clients varies a lot. Lots of young guys, tourists and middle eastern clients in the summer. Mainly locals, business visitors, cruise ship passengers and golfers from northern Europe during the winter. Which brings me to the point I was going to make – depending on the season and where they are based – or if they are like surfers following the waves and move from place to place on tour – sex workers can have a lot of time on their hands. As opposed to spending time on their backs, or other peoples back in my case, or whatever, I guess.
So, in my case I am so busy it is insane during the summer and I spend a lot of time during the summer binging on TV programmes, films and books that I had no chance to see or read over the summer. And I also have a small personal quirk during the summer, when the down times are brief but I have to stay awake. Being who I am, I keep my focus and attention by taking online courses for fun – do not judge, it is better than using drugs or caffeine! And I have actually managed to pass the idea onto a few other friends of mine in the sex business locally. With the result that lots of prostitutes in Malaga and Marbella are hitting the internet and learning stuff or getting qualifications when they are not with clients dispensing blow jobs.
So imagine my delight when I went to the cinema last week and saw “Molly’s Game” starring Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba, written and directed by Aaron Sorkin. The eponymous heroine spends her time at the poker games that she runs for high rollers doing exactly the same as me. Except that she is high, so she mentions to her lawyer at one point that she is only twelve credits from a degree in astronomy – even though she does not remember enrolling. I can sympathise.
